Black History Month is a time to celebrate influential leaders and impactful moments of the past. But celebrating Black history is not enough. The work of rebuilding an equitable and more resilient Buffalo & Erie County is not done.

A quality education begins with reading. When children are able to read to learn, they imagine more richly, develop a stronger vocabulary and engage in critical thinking. For United Way, increasing access to books is one way we help set kids up for future success. 

Here’s how you can help:

SHOP

Use our specially curated list to purchase books from your favorite retailer. Looking to shop local? All titles are available from Zawadi Books, 1382 Jefferson Ave, Buffalo, NY 14208. Shop in-store Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday, 12 – 4 p.m. or by phone at 716-903-6740. DOWNLOAD THE LIST.

DROP

Books can be dropped off or shipped directly to United Way of Buffalo & Erie County, 742 Delaware Ave, Buffalo, NY 14209. (Lobby hours 9 a.m. - 3 p.m, M-F) Orders through Zawadi Books can also be delivered directly to UWBEC.
