Buffalo Bills Team Up with United Way to Inspire Change–One Book at a Time

At United Way of Buffalo & Erie County, we’re building a stronger future for our community by investing in programs that support early childhood literacy, addressing early barriers to success for our youngest community members. We’re proud to partner with the Buffalo Bills Social Justice Committee through the NFL’s Inspire Change initiative to expand access to Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library across Erie County.

Through a generous $40,000 grant, the Buffalo Bills Social Justice Committee is helping us bring free, high-quality books to children in the 14215 zip code. This expansion is part of a larger effort to make Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library available to families throughout Erie County, with current availability in the 14201, 14204, 14213, 14215, and 14218 zip codes. Families with children under five in these areas can register to receive a new book in the mail each month, for each child, fostering a love of reading and creating opportunities for early literacy.

The impact of this program goes far beyond books. Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library is designed to nurture a love of learning and provide families with tools to support their children’s educational journey. Research shows that early literacy helps children build vocabulary, comprehension, and cognitive skills—all critical for success in school and beyond.

The Bills’ support underscores their commitment to building a better Buffalo.

It’s important to support the community and invest in our youth. This is more than a donation, it’s about creating real opportunities for these young people to succeed and taking away the roadblocks for the kids who are our future,” said Bills left tackle Dion Dawkins. “Our job as humans is service to others. It’s a blessing to be alive and to be able to give back on a daily basis, so give your gratitude to the planet by service to others.”

With the support of partners like the Buffalo Bills and the passion of our community, we’re working toward a future where every child in Erie County, regardless of income or zip code, has the opportunity to grow, learn, and thrive.
