Empowering Mothers: John R. Oishei Children's Hospital Joins Forces with United Way for Community Baby Shower

Uniting for Maternal and Pediatric Healthcare in Western New York

For the last 15 years, the United Way has hosted its remarkable Community Baby Shower. At John R. Oishei Children's Hospital, we recognized the immense need within our community, particularly for struggling families who face difficult decisions daily.

The United Way Community Baby Shower, running now through June 18, provides a lifeline for families. It offers critical items that alleviate stress and allow parents to focus on their child's well-being.

According to Dr. Marshall, OCH's Chief Medical Officer, sponsoring this event was a natural extension of our commitment to maternal and pediatric healthcare, ensuring that every family receives the support they need during this pivotal time, regardless of their circumstances.

"Supporting the Community Baby Shower resonates deeply with [OCH]," remarked Dr. Marshall. "Events like this are pivotal in empowering mothers for success. By nurturing collaborative initiatives such as the Community Baby Shower, we lay the groundwork for a future where every family flourishes under our care."

Embracing Community Support

Our commitment extends beyond financial contributions; it reflects a commitment to the well-being of WNY's youngest community members. Sharon Barron, Manager of the Regional Perinatal Program, stresses the significance of community support within Oishei Children's Hospital.

"When we consider the OCH and Kaleida Health’s mission, centered around the patient and family, it speaks to our focus on individual needs to enhance the health of our community," Barron said. "Through events like the Community Baby Shower, we ask ourselves, 'What can I do today to positively impact someone’s day?' It's about collaboration and support, because we are all stronger together in striving for better outcomes." Together, we can dismantle barriers and uplift our community—one mother, one infant at a time."

Now through June 18, find everything you need to host a baby shower, donate critical baby items or a virtual baby bundle, or create cards of encouragement for new moms at uwbec.org/babyshower.
