Announcing the 2024 Day of Caring

Day of caring - Tuesday, June 18, 2024 - One day. 2,000+ volunteers. Memories that last a lifetime.

The United Way of Buffalo and Erie County (UWBEC) is preparing to mobilize more than 2,000 volunteers representing 76 organizations for its 2024 United Way Day of Caring, set for Tuesday, June 18.

“The United Way Day of Caring is one of the many ways in which we mobilize and inspire people to be part of creating meaningful change,” said UWBEC President and CEO Trina Burruss. “More than 40 percent of Erie County families are trapped in cycles of hardship. That’s unacceptable. For us, Day of Caring is about doing what we can to break those cycles and improve the well being, education, and financial stability of our most vulnerable families. All of our Day of Caring project hosts are part of this day because they share those goals. Many of our volunteers will serve in parts of our community that have been especially underestimated and overlooked. Day of Caring is proof that when we each do what we can, we can uplift the entire community.”

The United Way Day of Caring is UWBEC’s largest one-day volunteer event. It gives individuals, businesses, and organizations from across the community the opportunity to come together and make a lasting impact through service. This year, volunteers will complete more than 100 projects for nonprofits throughout Western New York in a single day—representing more than 8,000 hours of volunteer time.

Volunteers provide a wide range of support to nonprofit organizations, including painting, landscaping, cleaning and organizing, serving meals, consulting on topics such as marketing or IT, and more.

The Community Baby Shower is part of the United Way Day of Caring. The United Way has accepted generous donations of new baby supplies from 33 organizations. Donations have included diapers, wipes, manual milk pumps, milk storage bags, nursing pads, digital thermometers, books, clothing, blankets, stuffed animals, and more. The supplies will be donated to families in need throughout Buffalo and Erie County.

The 2024 United Way Day of Caring is sponsored by Delaware NorthHSBCWegmans, the Buffalo BillsACV AuctionsCurbellLinde, and Thermo Fisher Scientific. The Community Baby Shower is sponsored by John R. Oishei Children’s HospitalCiti, and ThermoFisher Scientific.
